In memory of my beautiful Mum

I've been thinking about my lovely Mum a lot lately - I always find Christmas and New Year a very reflective time - and I came across these beautiful words I wrote down a while ago. I'm not sure who the author is or where I found them, but they just seemed so perfect. So very Mum. Just how I know she would love to be remembered. Peace perfect peace.

Pinky blossom
Golden halo

We will not stand at your grave and weep,

For you are not there,

You do not sleep.

You are the thousand winds that blow,

You are the diamond glints on snow.

You are the sunlight on ripened grain,

You are the gentle autumn's rain.

When we awake in the morning's hush,

You are the swift uplifting rush,

Of quiet birds circled flight,

You are the stars that shine at night.

We will not stand at your grave and cry,

For you are not there,

You did not die.

Oxford Flickr Photography Exhibition: October @ The Jam Factory

I'm taking part in my very first photography exhibition throughout October at the Jam Factory in Oxford called Made in Oxford. It's been organised by the lovely people that help run the Oxford Flickr Group. The exhibition shows Oxford through the eyes of 30 local photographers. Huge thanks to the organisers for all their hard work and doing such a fantastic job. If you live in Oxford, do go along and take a look!

And now it's over I can share the image I exhibited:

Dreamy

The University's Botanic Garden is one of Oxford's many beautiful green spaces and one of my favourite places to visit. An oasis of calm, colour and birdsong amidst the busy streets – there’s always something to photograph. I love capturing the changing seasons and you will find me and my macro lens there most months, hunting out something new and beautiful.

Brighton fun

Al and I had a fabulous long weekend in Brighton in early September. We stayed in a gorgeous boutique hotel called The White House which comes highly recommended. Right by the sea but up a side street so nice and quiet and the breakfast was something else. Just loved the seafront, fabulous shops, amazing food and dog beauty parlours :) I had the best meal out I've had in a very long time (and quite possibly the best ever) at the veggie restaurant Terre a Terre - you *must* go if you get the chance! Loved the colourful Bills cafe too and then there was vegan gluten-free pizza from the biggest health food store I've ever seen.....it was hard to drag me away! Oh and I mustn't forget the very cool lomography camera store we stumbled across....I could go on and on!

Sparkling summer days and sensational sunsets

Al and I chose our holiday dates particularly well this year, picking the only two weeks that it didn't seem to pour with rain :) Jersey was looking particularly gorgeous in the late June and early July sunshine - seems ages ago already! The photos below are of or near my favourite beach in the world: St. Ouen's beach in Jersey, Channel Islands.

Sark beautiful Sark

Al and I spent a wonderful three days on the tiny island of Sark for our wedding anniversary. One of the beautiful Channel Islands and tiny at just 3 x 1.5 miles, Sark is a peaceful haven where there are no cars - only a few tractors. Birds and butterflies are everywhere - we had such a wonderful relaxing break. I highly recommend it if you are looking for a peaceful getaway.

Owls beautiful Owls

Al and I went to a special photography day at the Barn Owl Centre near Gloucester in late April and it was such an amazing day. There were only 6 of us, so we got lots of opportunities to get close to the beautiful owls. They set up some flying shots for us, as well as finding some logs and other places for the owls to sit on for the close-up shots. I highly recommend it and the money goes to a very worthy cause.
