I started my zoepower.co.uk blog in 2008 (was that really 7 years ago?!!). I originally bought the domain name so I could get a decent email address after I got married. I wanted to start a blog to share my photographs along with a narrative, so it made sense to use the same domain name. I started out with a free template from Blogger and it has served me very well over the years. But I've been feeling for some time now that I've outgrown it, and I wanted more control over the layout, fonts etc. and a cleaner, more professional look. I also felt it was time to have a domain name that wasn't my own name. I settled on Beautiful Simplicity as it has been my strap line for years, and neatly sums up the photographic style I'm aiming for. Amazingly, the domain was still available!
I decided to move to Squarespace, as I really liked the templates they offered, along with the configurability, and after a free trial I was sold on its ease of use. The migration process from Blogger was very smooth, but I still needed to manually edit all 200 or so of my previous blog posts, so a few old ones got binned along the way. My blogging skills have certainly improved over the years!! I thoroughly enjoyed the process of configuring all the styles and laying out the pages and designing my logo - I probably spent far too long obsessing over fonts!
One of the things I really wanted to achieve with my new blog was an easy visual way of browsing blog posts by category - I used to get frustrated having to wade through the full text of blog posts to find what I wanted. I'd love to know what you think of my layout and categories - do they make sense? Is anything confusing?
I will hopefully get auto-forwarding set-up on my old zoepower.co.uk URL over the next few days, so any old links should still work (finger's crossed!), apart from the most recent post. I am also in the process of updating my site URL with Bloglovin (you have to ask them to do it manually), so hopefully you won't have to change anything if you follow along that way. Please do let me know if you spot any problems, broken links or other gremlins as you browse around - I'd be immensely grateful if you could drop me an email on email@example.com.
I'm very curious to know how you follow blogs and would love you to let me know in the comments. Personally, I use Bloglovin. I always share links to my blog posts on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Should I offer a subscribe by email option too? Or anything else? Or are we already overloaded?! I seem to regularly get a sense of deja-vu when I see posts appearing in all my social media feeds.... Would love to know what you think - thanks so much in advance!
Well, I think that's it for now. I'll be back soon with some new content (hurrah!)....
